Women can undergo breast augmentation if they wish to make their breasts larger and fuller. This procedure can be for reconstructive purposes as well, including contouring the breasts following a mastectomy to treat breast cancer. Two forms of breast implants are available:
Stem cell-enriched fat injections can also be used to augment breasts. Women must be at least 18 to undergo breast augmentation utilizing saline-filled implants or injections and at least 22 when using silicone implants. In some instances, patients will wish to have their breasts reduced in size which can also be performed at the office as well as breast lifts.
Also called a mastopexy, a breast lift improves the appearance of sagging, pendulous breasts by removing excess fat and skin and repositioning the breasts in a more natural, uplifted position for a younger-looking profile. Plus, by removing sagging tissue, breasts can look and feel firmer and more toned, and nipples can resume a natural, upright position. Breast lift surgery can be an especially good option for women whose breasts are sagging as a result of older age or following childbirth or breastfeeding.
Also called mammaplasty or reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction is a surgical procedure that's designed to remove excess tissue and fat to reduce the overall size of the breasts so they're better proportioned for your body. Breast reduction can also be used to reduce back pain and shoulder pain associated with large breasts and a heavy bra. In some cases, liposuction may be combined with surgery to remove additional fatty tissue. The doctor will determine the best techniques for your reduction based on a complete evaluation of your breasts and your needs and goals.
